What does the microhistory of Ioannina tell us about the hidden palimpsest that lies within the city?

The wall, Hellenistic, Byzantine, Ottoman, with its continuous additions and transformations, is a metaphor for the city of Ioannina. On the day of Theophany in 1402, five year-old Mandalena was watching the procession of the Cross coming from the lake towards the castle. The balcony gave way, and Mandalena became part of the legends of the city, just like the wall behind which all of this happened.
