Who is the platanus?

The giant plane tree looks like it has always been in this spot. It exists however due to human intervention. The plane trees came to the outskirts of the castle with the liberation, after 1913. This was preceded by the landfilling of the fortification ditch for reasons of public health. In the 1930s, the then Philodassiki Society of Ioannina started a systematic planting of plane trees. In the 1950s, the lakeside road was built, when more plane trees were planted. The plane tree is a living network of technological choices, bureaucratic structures, geopolitical changes, stories, history, and organic matter. The plane tree is us.
