Webinar: Winning the fight against skin cancer

Wednesday, May 31st, 18:30 UTC +3

Which tools are available in the fight for prevention and which are the most modern therapeutic approaches against skin cancer? Distinguished scientists will give answers to these and many more other questions in the webinar organized by the Onassis Foundation under the scientific auspices of the “Andreas Syggros” Hospital and the Melanoma & Skin Cancer Center on Wednesday, May 31st, at 18:30, and hosted on livemedia.gr.

May has globally been established as the skin cancer and melanoma (its most aggressive form) awareness and prevention month. Besides, skin cancer is the most common cancer for human beings. At the “Andreas Syggros” Hospital alone, approximately 1,000 new melanoma and skin cancer diagnoses are made annually, which means that this is a public health emergency.

The Onassis Foundation joined the fight against this serious health threat in 2018, when it entirely supported the reconstruction of the Melanoma Center at “Andreas Syggros” Hospital while implementing at the same time a big awareness campaign. A modern and functional space was thus built, receiving more than 40 skin cancer patients on a daily basis and making a major contribution to the fight against a rapidly growing disease that has been turning into a modern plague.

However, 2022 was a landmark year for Skin Oncology in our country, since - thanks to Onassis Foundation’s donation - the Melanoma Center became one of the few centers globally to have VECTRA WB360, a state-of-the-art system for skin mapping, acquiring thus a valuable weapon against skin diseases and skin cancer in particular.

What conclusions can be drawn from the first six months of VECTRA Wb360’s deployment? Distinguished scientists will give answers to this and many more other questions in the webinar organized by the Onassis Foundation under the scientific auspices of the “Andreas Syggros” Hospital and the Melanoma & Skin Cancer Center on Wednesday, May 31st, at 18:30, and hosted on livemedia.gr platform.
