Stories to be continued: Testimonies about organ donation and transplantation

Three inspiring testimonies about organ donation and transplantation come to Onassis Channel on YouTube. A cycle of narratives that highlight the resilience and unpredictable nature of life – which through each story finds a way to be continued.

Still from the film "The Sky Blue"

A heart transplant recipient and his sister, two clinical transplant coordinators, and a mother who gave permission for her 17-year-old daughter's organs to be donated to save five other people. Three different interviews, three different perspectives on a journey with one common destination: life. The three stories in the series form part of the Organmeetings information program.

The "Organmeetings" program is part of the Onassis Foundation National Initiative for Organ Donation and Transplantation, which aims to rebuild the transplantation sector and strengthen the culture of organ donation in Greece.

The Onassis National Transplant Centre, which will be delivered to the state in 2024, is the focal point of the National Initiative for Organ Donation and Transplantation. Together with the nearby Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre, they will be Greece's first fully digital hospitals and two of Europe's first fully digital hospitals.

The Sky Blue: The first story

Synopsis

The story of Kostas. Human strength is revealed through his words. A formal diagnosis does not mean the end. Through pain, fear, and anguish, he will receive the gift of life –a second chance.

The series opens with the story of heart transplant recipient Kostas Moiras, his sister Antigone, and their journey from the uncertainty of unexpected illness, organ failure, and the endless wait for a transplant to the relief of a transplant and a second chance at life.

Director’s Note

“We live in a country that statistically lags behind in terms of organ donation compared to the rest of the European countries. The need for raising awareness is evident. The story of Costas aspires to shed light on this world and help dispel stereotypes and fears at a critical juncture for organ transplantation, shortly before the inauguration of the first transplant center in Greece by the Onassis Foundation.”
