4th Transplant Masterclass “Challenges and opportunities in the organ donation and transplantation process”

A 3-day training seminar at Domotel Kastri, from 24 to 26 November 2023

The benchmark event in the field of organ donation and transplantation in Greece continues its journey for the second consecutive year thanks to the Onassis Foundation, under the scientific auspices of the Hellenic Transplant Organization and the support of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center.

A few of the extremely important topics to be addressed include the following: the immunology mechanisms and the relevant assessment for solid organ transplantation, the clinical support of donors and the optimization of their organs’ function, the brain death diagnosis criteria, the ways to approach the donors’ families, the deployment of the transplantation coordination process, as well as the challenges and the opportunities to save even more lives.

Almost one year after the successful first Transplant Masterclass, which took place with physical presence in December 2022, the Onassis Foundation marks once more its calendar with a new event on innovation, best practices and future trends in organ donation and transplantation. The 4th Transplant Masterclass (the 2nd one held with physical presence), will take place from 24 to 26 November, featuring more than 110 healthcare professionals, as well as tens of distinguished speakers who will provide a comprehensive overview of all aspects of organ donation and transplantation in Greece and abroad, through original presentations, interesting lectures and interactive real-time simulation workshops of the key transplantation-related operations.

This year’s main theme will be the “Challenges and opportunities in the organ donation and transplantation process”, addressing among other topics, the detection and evaluation of the suitability of a potential donor, the update to the brain death diagnosis criteria, the ways to approach the families of potential donors, as well as more specific issues relevant to the transplantation process.

Transplant Masterclasses is an innovative program developed under the scientific guidance of the Hellenic Transplant Organization (HTO) and with the collaboration of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center (OCSC) within the framework of the National Initiative on Organ Donation and Transplantation undertaken and implemented by the Onassis Foundation.
